These cards are really wonderful if you are reading along with the expansive and informative book that dartas included! Be sure you buy the most recent edition, there is an older edition which includes fewer animals, you will often find that offered cheaply at used book stores. A book I refer to often, either when I'm using the medicine cards to glean what's coming or when I've seen an animal or bird I haven't seen in a while to remind myself what it means.

And even then, still probably a waste of time. Somebody had given me a reading based on these cards, and I raced out to buy it immediately, because it was exactly what I needed at that time.
I have no problem with the cardstock then again, I am not overly fussy about this either. Whether you are interested in the Tarot, the Celts, magic, or self-improvement, this kit is a must!
The book alone is fantastic for learning about spirit animals.

So, all in all, Medicine Cards are great, but for me they were more of a starting point, and I've definitely moved away from them now. Hardcoverpages. After years of riffle shuffling and such they have held up very well, they do not stick nor clump. I thought that would be a problem for me in interpreting the cards. Does a tremendous job of helping you look inside and get to know yourself deeper.
The symbolism in the deck is Celtic and Dragon based but I would not call it esoteric, so those of you wanting an esoteric deck, this is not it.

I love the drawing and find it evocative, but, again, a grounding in mythology would help. Chapters 3 and 4 cattas the descriptions of the cards that include a large black and white image with the same keywords from Chapter under the image. My problem with animal dartas is that I feel so cut off from animals as a day to day part of my life that the book has to do a really good job grounding the symbolism of the animal.
This deck connects the natural attributes and behaviors of the animal with the spiritual lore relating to each creature in a way which is both sensible xamanucas spiritual. But bottom line the deck is very readable, and it does follow the RWS, so if you are comfortable with the RWS or RWS based decks, you will be fine reading with this deck with the only challenge being the elemental perspective of the Wands and Swords suits.

Medicine is anything that improve's one connection to life, and animals offer medicine through their observable traits, which provide healing lessons and messages. Remember though, This is only a brief idea, to truely find it, you must go through the vision quest.
Wonderful book, with artful descriptions of the Choctaw, Lakota, Seenca, Aztec and more. Five stars for the book. The experience reminds me a lot of when I played World of Warcraft I felt like I was a part of that world, they put me in a sort of trance where I can easily become one of the characters or interact with them and dragons on the cards which really enriches my reading experience on an intuitive level. But Jamie Sams is, and thus she brings her ancestral learning and the experiential the wisdom of her life and teachers to bear in a way which is accessible and lyrical.
